Structures and shapes

  • Kevin Bauer / Fine art

‘When there is not a single trace of humans left, what will remain of the buildings where we lived, worked or enjoyed spending time? What makes a piece of furniture still usable? Without our presence they are a combination of materials without a destiny and with a questionable reason for existence.

In my work I try to find a balance between spatial compositions of various materials and recognisable elements from daily life. During the work process I mostly pay attention to geometric shapes and surfaces, colour and the interplay between light and shadow. The interior is at least as important as the exterior. The tension appears when it all comes together and the threat of an overkill of visual information looms.

Structures communicate through shapes, passageways challenge the viewer and sometimes statues seem to defy gravity.’
